Safety Tips

Swimming Pool Safety Tip :
The arrival of hot weather around much of the nation means many people are now using the family pool. Be especially aware of the need for a barrier around the pool. Effective barriers include fences or walls, and power safety covers over pools. Fences and walls should be at least 5 feet high. Fences cannot be climbable on the side facing away from the pool. Fence gates should be self-closing and self-latching, and swing away from the pool area. The latch must be at least 54 inches from the bottom of the gate or be located on the pool side of the gate at least 3 inches below the top to assure it is out of a small child's reach.
If your home forms one side of your pool’s barrier: Doors leading from the house to the pool should be protected with audible alarms with sound pressure of at least 85dBA for 30 seconds. The de-activation button for the alarm must be at least 54 inches above the floor. A power safety cover across the pool can be used as an alternative to door alarm. Ladders or steps to above-ground pools should be secured, locked or removed when the pool is not in use.

Be safe, be vigilant. Consider your children and your neighbor's children when planning your pool barrier. Home inspectors may perform pool inspections independent from full inspections. Inspectors are up to date on the codes.
