Water Shutoff Valves

Know how to shut the water flow to your home in an emergency. Be sure to locate valves that will cut the house water or at least a specific fixture or appliance. The most important valve in the home will shut off the main water supply for the whole plumbing system. This valve is often situated on the same side of the house as the water meter and may be found under the kitchen sink or in the basement. Here in California it's usually at the street, sidewalk or the edge of the lawn. This is where the water company reads the meter and has the turn on and off capacity. But be sure to wear a glove as black widow spiders will nest in the dark dampness at this location. Ask me to show you the location of the main and other shutoff valves while you are with me during your inspection. These locations will always be in my report.
